Chronology of an Old Woman’s Death…She died
June 1st 2008 13:18
Well, I know it’s been a long time since I updated this diary of events. There has just been so much going on. For those who were following, I apologize and I will summarize what has been happening.
With the old woman in a nursing home, the battle continued with the grandson wanting to keep his grandfather at the house. This was not a good situation. It was apparent the only reason he wanted to do this is because he didn’t want his source of money and a roof over his head being cut off. The siblings did engage a lawyer and finally ran it all down to her. She placed a call to Family Services who said they would investigate and then (and I may have said this before) she contacted the Prosecuting Attorney. Ah, but the wheels of justice turn slowly. It doesn’t really seem if anything is happening, even though the lawyer says it is.
They took the old man and put him in a nursing home when they found out that the grandson had not been there when Claire had her stroke. She had laid on the floor the entire night and was not found until about 9am. The old man is so violent they are keeping him totally drugged up. The kids are pissed about this, but I don’t blame them. I worked in a behavioral center once and dealing with a violent out of control Alzheimer’s patient is the worst.
Two weeks ago my husband got the call that his mother had passed. I thought he would want to go to the funeral, but he said he did not. He also predicted quite accurately that it would be a circus. Wow, was he right. When the kids all went to make the arrangements, the youngest and the mother of the grandson, went crazy at the funeral home. They were screaming that the grandson was supposed to be the executor..yadda…yadda. All nonsense. The funeral director called the cops and had them all removed. So, my husband’s one sister was called back in to finish. Once they laid her out, then the showing became a real spectacle. They were fighting and arguing about who was getting what (funny thing is, they really don’t have anything….and hey, Papa’s still alive!). The cops had to come to the memorial to calm everyone down. All of this was reported to my husband via telephone. He obviously knew his family well.
Funeral over, the executor says that their mom had put back $70k to be divided between the seven kids….she really had to sneak to do that. So, they are all standing in line wanting to know how quick they can get it. The good thing is that the lawyer has given the grandson an eviction notice and all the utilities are now off. They are also going to transfer the titles to the vehicles to the father’s name so that the grandson is going to have to get out of the house and give up the vehicles…yeah. What everyone is looking forward to is him being arrested for elder abuse and taking their money. The idiot is still trying.. He tried to write and cash a check. He tried to clean out the safe deposit box and I’m sure the house is about emptied of anything that may have had even a little value. He even sent a bill to the family lawyer saying that he and his mom want reimbursed for gas that they used going back and forth since her stroke and for his running around for them. The bill was for $5400!!!! The lawyer just laughed.
So now, things seem to be calming down. The executor said that the two of them had some serious investments, plus there is a small house to be sold and three nice vehicles that are all paid for…Now keep in mind that to our knowledge the old man was basically healthy, just not in his right mind and yes, I know that Alzheimer’s does ultimately kill people (though I don’t understand how). Anyway, now they are all saying he’ll be dead in three weeks???? Well, I’m marking my calendar…if he is, then these people are really going to freak me out!
As for my husband…he says nothing would surprise him and he is comfortable in his decision to stay the hell away for all of them.
