It's that time of year: shoplifting!
December 7th 2008 16:32
Ah yes, Christmas...a time to reflect, a time to share and for many, a time to shoplift. With the economy the way it is, I'm sure more and more people have joined the ranks of shoplifters.
I personally feel sorry for the security staff in the department stores. I've been there and done it in my lifetime. (been a security person, not a shoplifter!) Years ago, we watched for shoplifters and if we saw anyone stealing anything, we would simply approach them and take them to the security office. Not many fears. Mostly the concern was that they might run and we'd have to chase after them. I never was a runner so I hated when this happened. Not so today. Today there is real reason to be concerned.
I read the other day about two Walmart employees in Kansas who approached a couple of women and one of them pulled out a taser and tasered the employee. The employee was stunned but was not seriously injured and the shoplifters were apprehended and charged, not only with shoplifting but with battery.
You know those employees are probably making $10 an hour if they are lucky. I really think they should reconsider their line of work. That taser could have just as easily been a .38....I don't know about them, but my life is worth more than $10 an hour.

This is supposed to be the season for love, kindness and sharing, not stealing! Celebrating the Christmas season by stealing is a terrible thing....
