Sweet Dreams - conclusion
Reaching out, she stroked Bob’s face gently. He slowly and carefully took her hand in his, fearing that at any second this incredible vision would disappear. It didn’t. He kissed her hand as she sat on the bunk next to him.
“I’ve really missed you,” she said in a hush.
He had missed her too and he wanted to grab her and hold on for dear life, but he was afraid he would lose this precious moment. He held back. “I missed you, too.”
Maryanne looked at her husband curiously, “I can’t tell, this is a very lukewarm reception.”
“I’m afraid.”
“Afraid of what?”
“I’m afraid that if I blink, you may be gone.”
Maryanne patted her own arm and then her leg. “I feel pretty solid...I think it’s okay.”
He took a deep breath, no longer able to hold back, and pulled Maryanne down to him and kissed her deeply. They kissed for a long time and then Bob opened his eyes. She was still there smiling down at him.
“I wish you’d relax a little,” she said.
Bob closed his eyes tightly and then exhaled loudly. “Okay...I will.” He sat up in the bunk. She was still there. Maybe he could relax. He had done it! He couldn’t believe that he had done it....but he had! Maybe it was just a dream, but he didn’t care. It was the sweetest dream he’d ever had and he never wanted to wake up.
The two talked for hours on end. He told her about the boot camp and being thrown out. He also told her that he wouldn’t be home now for two years. She handled it well. Bob felt like he had died and went to heaven. He prayed the lazy officers wouldn’t decide to get off their asses and check on him now.
“Are you hungry?” Bob asked.
Maryanne flashed him a sexy look, “Only for you.”
Bob smiled and wondered how far he could take this. He didn’t want her to disappear, but he didn’t want to waste even one wonderful moment of this. He didn’t know what to do. But, Maryanne solved his dilemma when she stood up and removed her clothes. Bob watched as she dropped the last piece of clothing on the floor of the cell. She climbed onto the bunk with Bob.
