PRISON STORIES - Sweet Dreams (continued)

PRISON STORIESSTORY BLOCK (Rated R, violence, sex)

SWEET DREAMS continued.....

Days turned into weeks and Bob practiced the techniques relentlessly. A week into it, he thought about giving up...until he was caught by surprise. The practice had become just a ritual he went through to pass time, but as he lay on his bed focusing his attention, suddenly he saw his wife standing right beside him! At least, he thought he saw her. It only lasted for a minute or less and he thought he was dreaming, but somehow it seemed so real. At one point, he reached up and touched her hand. He felt her warm skin with his fingertips. It was so awesome...so real and then Tiger had slid the window open and shoved a lunch tray in, breaking Bob’s concentration. Bob did everything to enhance his concentration and get her back. He had to see her again! But no matter how hard he tried that day, he just couldn’t recreate it. Maybe it was only a dream. When he was exhausted from trying to relax, he lay back on his bunk and put his hands to his face. He sat up quickly, running his fingers past his nose. He could smell her! It couldn’t have been a dream! I have to try harder!
At dinner time, Tiger came with his tray, right on schedule. Sliding the window open, Tiger peeked in. “Good stuff tonight...burgers. How you doing, Big Bob? Can I get or give you anything else?” Tiger batted his eye lashes at Bob.
Bob smiled. Tiger started to close the window. “Hey, wait!” Bob yelled. Tiger reopened the window.
“Second thoughts Big Bob?”
Bob shook his head, “No, but don’t bring me anymore meals, okay?”
“You’re gonna get awful hungry.”
“It’s for religious purposes...I need to fast for a week or so. I’ll be fine.”
“Suit yourself...but they’ll force feed you, if they find out.” Tiger said with a hint of concern in his voice.
“They won’t find out if you don’t tell them, now will they?”
“Okay...it’s your stomach. Do you want me to get you more books?”
Bob thought a minute, “No, I’ll be meditating; I would prefer not to be disturbed at all.”
“You got it!” Tiger slammed the window shut.
Bob wondered for a minute if he had done the right thing. If Tiger really didn’t come around, nobody would be around. It had been two weeks and Bob had never seen an officer. He thought they were supposed to let guys out every day for exercise and a shower, but it had never happened. The only face he ever saw was Tiger’s. He thought back to the sight of his wife and felt warm all over. Now he could concentrate all of his efforts.
Days and nights went by and Bob had lost track of how many. Still his efforts were fruitless and his body seemed to be getting weaker by the minute. He contemplated getting a meal and thought better of it. Maybe the sacrifice would pay off. And anyway, the hunger pains had passed, he just felt very tired.
Bob lay down on his bunk and began concentrating. For some reason, he couldn’t get the image of his wife standing next to him back in his mind. He tried and tried and then fell asleep. A few hours later, he woke and tried again. He thought back to see if he could remember anything different that he had done. Then it hit him...he had been holding on to a picture of his wife while he concentrated. He jumped up and grabbed the Polaroid photo of Maryanne. He sat on the bunk and stared at it for quite a while before quickly kissing it and then laying down, clutching the photo in his hand.
Bob started with the breathing exercises, all the while focusing on his wife. Following the breathing, he did a progressive relaxation exercise that involved telling each part of his body to relax. Then he closed his eyes and began to visualize his wife. Starting at her feet, he created a picture in his mind of her small, perfectly proportioned feet. He saw the sandalwood polish on her toenails. Then he saw her thin, but muscular calves, and as if painting a portrait, he saw her long tanned thighs and fairly narrow hips. Hesitating, he visualized her shapely behind and gently sloping shoulders. Her head cocked slightly on her long neck. The picture was becoming very clear in his mind.
Her face...oh, her face. Petite, smooth and honey colored, it was a face that lit up a room. It became so clear he felt he could touch it. Once all the details of her face were there, Bob allowed the whole picture to come together. There she was, beautiful and almost real.
Suddenly, Bob felt something on his face. Determined not to lose his concentration, he refused to acknowledge it. Oh, Maryanne, you are so beautiful and I love you so much. Something was on his face again. Stop it...please...I don’t want to lose my beautiful visualization. This time, Bob felt something on his head. He thought there must be a bug...but...it felt as if it was stroking his hair. He had to keep the image in his mind. But it was becoming increasingly difficult and the bug, or whatever it was, was now moving down his cheek, across his chin and down his neck. He couldn’t take it anymore. He raised his hand to swish it away, but felt nothing. Good, now where was I? Regaining the image of his wife, he held on to the feeling. Then, he thought he heard something. What was it? Bob’s heart pounded. His initial thought was that the bug was near his ear. Geez, he hoped it wouldn’t crawl in. Then he heard it clearly.
“Bob...dear Bob.” the voice whispered in his ear.
For a minute, he didn’t breathe. Had he finally lost his mind? It sounded like Maryanne. Bob lay perfectly still, attempting to hold his breath even longer. Waiting and waiting to hear it again. He thought he felt someone breathing in his ear.
“Bob...I love you.”
Bob opened his eyes. There she was, standing right beside him. He stared, loving what he saw, but still not quite believing it. Maryanne smiled at her husband.
“Maryanne?”

Not so thrilled about violence but loved your piece on kitchen gadgets. And infomercials... don't they make every product look amazing? I bought the abdoer (spellcheck?). Most expensive piece of junk that did nothing for my abs and hurt my back. But still I watch and I think maybe this one...
