PRISON STORIES: The Social Worker (continued)

November 1st 2006 12:19
STORY BLOCK Rated R

The Social Worker...continued.

Officers Black, Smith and Pate walked around the inmate who was bleeding profusely, waiting for assistance.
“Jesus!” Black said.
“Damn! Have you all ever seen so much blood?’ Smith said in disbelief.
“No way!” Pate responded.
Smith walked up very close to the inmate, “Do you think he’s dead?”
Pate shrugged, stepping in a little closer. “I don't know. I don't think so. I think I see his chest moving.”
Officer Black stooped down and picked up a piece of paper. He opened it, closed it and then stuffed it in his pocket quickly, trying to be discreet.
Inmate Eisle moved his head, startling Smith who was still taking a very close look at the inmate. Black chuckled when Smith jumped back almost losing his balance. Black looked at the inmate, “What the fuck is wrong with you, boy?” Inmate Eisle mumbled something. Black put his ear near the inmate’s face, “What?”
The inmate struggled to speak louder, “I want Ms. Juran.”
Patting his jacket pocket where he had placed the piece of paper, Black responded sarcastically, “I’ll bet you do!”
Finally, Captain Jones entered the room with the officers. His deeply lined face showed concern and shock at the bloody scene. “Holy shit!”
“He’s asking for Ms. Juran.” Black stated in a strange tone.
The captain looked at Black as if questioning his accusing tone and then pulled his radio from his belt. He contacted the control center and asked them to get Ms. Juran to come to isolation.
Within minutes, Susan ran into the isolation cellblock. There were several officers and supervisors in the area. Susan stopped at the front desk, “Who is it? What’s going on?”
Captain Jones shouted to Susan from down the range. “Your guy...Eisle...he’s asking for you? Hurry up!”
Susan’s mind raced. She knew by all of the people in the area, that something bad had happened. Susan walked back the hall to the cell. She stopped and looked at the floor before entering.
“Ms. Juran, I can't handle it...” Eisle said weakly when he saw her.
“God...why didn't you call for me..we could have talked.”
Paramedics entered the room, pushing Susan and a couple of officers out of their way. Susan and the officers left the room. Susan stopped just outside the cell door. “Jesus...” she said.
Smith watched Susan as she closed her eyes tightly. “He's crazy...I wouldn't sweat it if I were you.” he said in a slightly consoling tone.
“I think I'm gonna be sick.” Susan said as the color drained from her face. Susan ran for the outer door. Officer Pate followed her. The door buzzed open and the two stepped outside.
“You okay?” Pate asked.
Susan leaned against the wall. “Yeah...I felt sick for a minute there. I can't believe he did this. Weren't you guys doing your rounds?”
Pate ignored her comment. “He was acting flaky all night.”
“Why didn't someone call me?”
“Cuz he's crazy! He was talking shit about all kinds of things...he was even talking about how worried he was about you...” he said in a defensive tone.
“What? Why?”
“Who knows. Like I said, he was talking crazy...we figured it was an act.”
Susan looked at Pate. He wasn’t as bad as the rest of the good old boys, but he was definitely one of them. She shook her head and then walked away as the paramedics come out of the door with the inmate on a gurney.

Susan entered her office, flipping the lights on and began pulling apart stacked chairs. Her clerk, a young, overtly gay, black man, Inmate Simon entered the room smiling. “Good morning, boss...you're late.” Simon took the chair from Susan and began arranging the others for her.
“Good morning.”
Another inmate came to the door. Inmate Morley, a very handsome young man entered the room. “Excuse me, I'll just get your trash.”
Susan flashed him a smile. “Thanks.”
Simon looked at his boss, “Your stress group is supposed to start in less than five minutes.”
“Yeah...I know.”
Simon waited until Morley left the room and then spoke, “Okay, boss, let’s have it...what's wrong...where were you?”
“Oh, just dealing with something.”
“All right...I get it...it’s none of my business. I just hope it’s nothing too bad.”
Susan smiled at Simon. She really did like this guy. He kept her entertained. She found it hard to believe that he was a bank robber, but he was and made no bones about admitting it. Susan watched Simon as he prepared the room for her group. She sincerely hoped that one day, he’d be a free man and a productive citizen.

Officer Black was alone in the front section of the isolation block. He picked up the phone and dialed. He looked around to make sure no one was there and he spoke in a low voice. “Hey, Nigel, I got something for you...um..hm. You know that little mother fucker who tried to kill himself yesterday? Yeah...him.” Black pulled the note from his pocket. “Well, he left a note for Susan Juran...that's right...I don't want to go into it on the phone, but...I think they had something going on...no shit! Yeah, catch me at the clock and I'll give it to you.

Conclusion on Friday!

Oh how mean that Black is.

Think that there is some conspiracy going on between that inmate Eisle and Susan?

Hm... but the best is yet to come. I remembered your work is like that. let's see how it ends!
