So, President Elect Obama is a smoker!

December 10th 2008 18:35
Well, good God, you'd think he was a serial killer or something the way the media is focusing on it. He's not doing anything illegal. Now, I don't have any problem with the fact that the White House is a designated a non-smoking place....all government buildings are. And if they even put the limos off limits, I think that's fine. But to make such a big deal is ridiculous.

I heard one newsman talking about how he is a role model and the smoking is the worst kind of example to set. Well, Mr. Newsman, he is not walking around with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth and if Presidents are supposed to be such good moral role models how do you rate Clinton, Bush, Kennedy...they all have their issues that have come to light and it certainly was much deeper than smoking cigarettes.

The man is not smoking crack and there are a lot more important things we Americans need to worry about right now than his smoking. How about the economy, the war, healthcare and taxes...just to name a few! GET REAL!

Agreed that there are more important things to worry about, Cathy. But the obscene hippocricy disturbs me. I'm a smoker and getting tired of people treating me like some sort of an outcast by telling me when and where I can light up a legal cigarette. There are places (many in Calif. in fact) where you can be arrested for lighting a Marlboro but not a joint. Algore's family made their fortune on tobacco and he does everything he can to abuse smokers of the product that made him rich. Now we have B.O. about to move into the White House, still approving of the oppressive taxes on smokers and the restrictions the rest of us have to deal with, while being able to indulge in his nasty habit anytime he wants to. Who's gonna tell the President that he can't light up? Seriously? I don't like B.O. to start with, Cathy, but it ticks me off to see that he's nothing but a nasty little creep who lords it over everyone else that he can do what the rest of us can't. If he were worth a spit, he'd either quit smoking or have a little rationality where the rest of us are concerned. If he can't handle something as simple as cigarettes what will he do with the serious issues?

hi S.L. I am a smoker too. I'm a real polite smoker and I'm actually hoping he would end up being like me. I'm polite and try to follow the rules, but if you piss me off....then I go crazy....Maybe he'll get sick of the crap and swing things the other direction. I'm the eternal optimist!

Happy Holidays!!!!!

I thought Obama had quit? Did he backslide? And I thought Michelle was supposed to be enforcing the ban?

Although, given all the problems he's got to deal with the moment he takes office, I guess we don't want him suffering nicotine withdrawal as well. It's not my sin of choice, but to each his own.
