The Arrogance of Companies

March 30th 2007 12:44
You know sometimes we just have to stand up and say "Stop!"
While I understand everyone wants to make money if in business but the US has become the greediest of the greediest. Its so sad.

This morning news was about Circuit City laying off 3500 employees because they topped $17 an hour in wages. Now mind you, the reason they had reached this level was because they had been with the company for 15 plus years. So, instead of rewarding their company loyalty, they laid them off and will allow them to reapply for their jobs in eleven weeks at $9 an hour...a wage we all know you cannot survive on if you have a family. Why is Circuit City doing this? Because they want a bigger bottom line.

This is not an isolated example of greed. You've all seen my rants about State Farm...well they had showed the largest profit ever...in the billions, during a time of the worst catastrophies in US history...how did the do it? They simply didn't pay peoples claims...many customers who had paid premiums for years, thinking they were protected. Why did they do it? Greed.

Think about it....when you enter a busines or seek a product such as insurance. You are the customer and for most of our capitalist history, the customer was the most important person. People treated you well because they wanted your business. They treated their employees well because they wanted their loyalty. Its not like that any place today. Even banks...remember the days when you went in and people bent over backwards to help you because they wanted you to open your account...today, they couldn't care less. They make the rules and you are no longer the important customer. You'll deal with them on their terms or you'll go somewhere else and they'll happily show you the door. If you go into Circuit City today, you will play hell trying to get someone to help you...no one cares anymore...

I personally am sick of this trend and I really think we are just now seeing the tip of the iceberg. As citizens and consumers I think we should reexamine who we give our business too. Set aside our desire for object and hold out on some of these greedy companies. The difference in prices between Circuit City and Best Buy is neglible at best...so Best Buy is getting my business from now on...even if it costs me a few extra bucks. I'm tired of making companies richer who couldn't care less about me as a consumer.

I say begin boycotting companies who have the "greed" attitude or the arrogance not to treat you as a "customer" should be treated....without customers...they have no business. We need to get rid of this attitude of "oh well...at least I got what I wanted even though they treated me like crap or really ripped me off." Stand up and be counted and appreciated....it's time!!!!!
