QUESTIONABLE PICK OF THE DAY – STATE FARM

Okay, I think I’ve seen it all now. A couple of weeks ago, two courageous young ladies stepped up and blew the whistle on the US insurance company, State Farm. For those who don’t live in the US or near the Gulf Coast, State Farm has been accused by many of not paying claims to those who lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina.

The young women said they were ordered by higher-ups to change information regarding claims so they wouldn’t have to pay the claim. They said they loved their job, but after such a huge disaster, they could not be part of hurting people who had already been devastated by the biggest disaster in our nation’s history. Of course, the FBI became involved immediately and wanted proof to support their allegations. They turned over approximately 17,000 documents. I know I was cheering them on as were many others. WELL…the other day, the local news reported that State Farm was suing the young ladies! I think they said it was for breach of trust??? Can you imagine this? UNBELIEVABLE! How could a court or judge even think of entertaining such a suit? My heart goes out to these women. I hope they can hang tough. They did the right thing and I just hope our justice system works as advertised. I guess my question is: Let's say you decide to join the Mafia...and they have you sign saying you won't tell their secrets, then can they sue you when you report a murder they committed?????

You go, girls! Mississippians are applauding you!!!!!

VIDEO FOR THE DAY

On a more positive note, today marks the beginning of my STORY BLOCK...remember, it is RATED R (due to strong language, some sex and some violence)....enjoy.

THE WISH
Jim Haning blinked back tears as he looked out the window of the rickety bus. He rubbed his eyes and then pushed back a long strand of blond hair that was sticking to his sweaty face. Why had he let those guys talk him into going with them? The pain and the memories rushed back to him.

Jim had a gut feeling that it wasn’t going to be as simple as they had told him. “Just hold this gun and watch for anyone coming,” his friend had said. “Yell, if you see anyone.” Jim had no idea that someone would come and that they would have a gun. In a split second, fear had overtaken him. The 9mm in his face caused him to pull the trigger of the little 22 he was holding. In that frozen moment in time, Jim’s life changed forever.

The vibration of the bus and the heat of the day was giving Jim a migraine headache. So, was the thought of his friends who had concocted the lame plan. They had ran out a back door and Jim never saw their faces again. Not that he wanted them to go to prison, but somehow it just didn’t seem fair. The prosecutor had offered Jim a deal if he would give up the names of those with him that fateful night. Maybe he should have, but, hell, they were his friends and they would never snitch him out. The bus slowed as it reached its destination. The barb wire shined in the bright summer sun. A guard holding a shotgun waved the bus into a sallyport from his perch in a tall tower. The bus slowly entered.
Jim felt sick. He felt weakness spreading through his muscular, twenty year old body. He’d heard all the horror stories about prison, especially the stories about young white boys! God, I can’t do this! Panic was overtaking him. The door to the bus opened and a heavy set guard with a cigar hanging out of his mouth stepped inside the bus.
“All right, mother fuckers, welcome to prison. I want you to step from the bus, one at a time. No bullshit or you’ll pay for it. Once I shake all of ya’ll down, we’ll be going to the ID room where you’ll be strip searched and then get your new ID card. Any questions?” The guard looked around the bus with an expression that dared anyone to speak up.
Jim inhaled deeply as he watched the guy in front of him get patted down by the officer and then sent to the side of the sallyport with another officer.
“You got a problem...girl?” stated the officer flatly.
Jim was absorbed in his thoughts. A shove from behind sent him flying down the three steps at the bus door and onto the pavement on all fours in front of the officer.
“Damn...look at you. Girl, you’re gonna be a prize here! Them black boys love pretty young boys, especially those with such pretty blonde hair. Get up fucker.”
Jim was shaking all over as he stood at the officer’s command.
“Spread your legs.” Jim obeyed and the officer ran his hands all over Jim, stopping at his crotch. “Whoa...” The officer looked back to the bus and raised his voice as he continued, “Ya’ll are gonna like his package...he’s got a big one for a white boy!”
The humiliation was just too much for Jim. He didn’t care anymore. Face burning, Jim turned and swung his hands that were cuffed together and landed a blow to the officer’s jaw, almost knocking him off his feet. As if they appeared from thin air, several officer’s converged on Jim, knocking him to the ground, pounding his face into the pavement. Jim’s mind reeled, but he felt no pain. He knew at this minute, without a doubt that he could not live in prison. He would rather die...and in fact, that was it. Let them kill him. One officer grabbed him by his hair forcing Jim’s face upward. Jim spit. The officer hit him in the face. If they didn’t kill him, he would take his life and end this nightmare. This was his last coherent thought as his face met the pavement again with vengeance and his world went into darkness.
TO BE CONTINUED TOMORROW.
